VERMONT AMERICAN/BOSCH UNION NEWSLETTER

June, 2005

Vol.7 No.2

We are organizing the Carolina Auto, Aerospace & Machine workers Union (CAAMWU). We are a union for fairness and justice for all workers. Workers have the right to distribute and read this newsletter in the cafeteria, break-rooms and parking lots during lunch and break times; before and after work. Section 7 of the National Labor Relations Act, a Federal law, also gives Vermont American /Bosch workers the right to organize and join a union.

CAMMWU

The U.E. lead International Justice campaign is still in force. As charted members of U.E. both CAAMWU and U.E.150 is proud to support this struggle. We support this struggle for collecting bargain here in North Carolina. As this illegal and racist war in Iragi continue to destroy families and communities especially the African American community it is very important that workers understand how Unions enhances our communities as a hole. The public forums that are being held through out the state clearly show that injustice is done on a daily basic in this state. Workers both in the private and public sector are struggling too make ends meet. While these administrators and managers continue to rob workers of their jobs and retirement and pension plan it is vital that workers in South in be Union conscious. The poor working class Whites, Blacks and Hispanic are now at the point of not being able to afford the basic necessities of life. The cost of living is now at the highest in history and is expected to rise even higher as the summer seasons ends. CAAMWU along with other unions and labor organizations is in support of workers through out the state in their struggle for collecting bargains. CAAMWU is now in support of C.A.R and other public officials and are opposing the way that Pitt County is now planning to revitalize certain areas in the Black Communities that they intend to condemn their property in order not to pay Black Business owners and other property owners a fair market value. To learn more about this and other issue this union is involve in see David Brown or Call your City Council persons or County Commissioner. Our Union and CDC Unionized sister plants through the nation continues to support CDC Union members and none members helping these workers obtain monies that is owe to them bye the company from 2002 profits.

UNION BUSINESS AT BOSCH GREENVILLE DIVISION

The Honor Agreement Campaign continues for us at Bosch. As we have mention in past newsletters that working conditions are not getting any better here for us ALL. We continually see racist and nepotism practices here. Many of us mainly older African Americans are now been called into disciplinary meeting. This is done in a way that is both racist and unjust. Because Black Americans have spill their blood in the past for us to get where we at this day (and this is not very far) we should be protesting each and everyday at this plant the way we have let this racist management here get away with all these unjust practices and racism. Look at how Diana Yeatts, Kit Palmer, and Mike Coffee are trying to (see over).

WORKING CONDITIONS CONTINUES

The union committee over the years has shown the deliberate double standards when it come to Black verses White. We have also said that we want fair working conditions for all workers no matter color we are. White workers see the double standard also when it come to them. The fact remains that many African American are still treated unequally at this division. The latest example of this is that African American are now being called into the supervisor office or in Diana Yeatts office for any disciplinary reason that they think they can get away with and not be challenged by anyone. The positive thing about this is that many are now taking the union advice and not signing any of these documents. This is how management traps employees into these unjust lay-offs bye getting us to sign something that we don’t agree with. James Turnage an ITM Lead Technician on Second is now being treated unfairly and is single out for running scrape and at this same time White Lead Technicians run the same scrape and nothing is done about.

With in the last two to three weeks Clark Larauch toke a Black Worker up stairs for insubordination for supposedly refusing to do a job and was given 10 points. This worker did the job before his shifted ended. Before Johnnie Roberson a year ago retire this same white worker told this supervisor at that time that he wasn’t going to a damn thing and he didn’t. Nothing was did about this but swept under the rug by Diana Yeatts who supposedly to be such good friend to several black workers. If she has done one unjust thing to one Black worker then she has done it to all of us. Just give it a little more time and these ones see for themselves also. If white workers don’t trust this snake why should we? On March 29th 7:50 am of 2005 a white worker was caught sleeping bye several black employees including and management was notified what did we see happen. Nothing but a statement was put on the TV monitor in the break-room. The reason behind the low pay scale at our division is because this plant is majority and this is the same reason the working condition are so stressful and deplorable. This is how racism effects white workers also. Because the maintenance department is highest paid department at any facility these majority white workers tend to agree with management when it comes to unionization. Look at how some are paid less than others and have been here longer and do the same job. Is not this a FORM OF RACISM? Look at how we all are made to more than two or three jobs and no more pay. We say again EQUAL PAY FOR EQUAL WORK FOR ALL WORKERS. Gary Utzs and his senior managers is well aware that workers feel that if we won collective bargain at this plant then the plant will close. The fact is that this plant can close weather we have a union or not. All the while we continue to have fear we will continually to strip of a union base cost of living wage, health care premiums will continually at an alarming rate, working conditions will continually to get worse. We are asking right now all employees to do their job the best we can and not let management use their tatic against us to divide us. During these uncertain economic times we must have unity among ourselves or we will see ourselves right out of a job. Labor Static still show that plant that are mismanaged, along being the oldest plant and majority black workers these are the plants close first. These are our condition we can change them. The petition is still being circulated. Take your stand.

As part of UE 150,CAMMWU members are part of the United Electrical, Radio Machine Workers of America (UE), a rank and file, members-run, union representing tens of thousands of workers in 26 states across the country. We encourage all workers at Bosch to find out more about our union at: organize@ue150.org and caamwu@.org
